Amaryllis Flowers

I love Amaryllis flowers. Ever since I was a young boy, my father always had these flowers in the house. One of the amazing things about this plant is the size of the flowers. Each flower can be up to 10" in size. That's the size of a plate! I love to see them grow and you can force the flowers to bloom at Christmas.

Your typical Amaryllis plant comes in a cheap plastic pot with yucky soil. If you want to have some success with growing Amaryllis, you'll have to toss the plastic pot and get yourself a nice big clay pot. All my large Amaryllis bulbs are in 10" or larger pots.

Get some decent potting soil from your local garden center and use it to pot your new Amaryllis bulb. Make sure you have proper drainage. Amaryllis plants hate soggy soil. They are prone to root rot and you want to avoid that by allowing the soil to dry out a little between waterings.

If you do it right, you'll have big Amaryllis flowers blooming in about 6-8 weeks after planting the bulb!
